APPEARANCE AND CHARACTERISTICS

Dysprosium Oxide is a rare earth element that can be described as bright white in appearance. As a metal, it is very reactive and oxidizes quickly in the air. It is insoluble in water, slightly hygroscopic and strongly magnetic.

CONCENTRATION OF SUPPLY

China has remained the main supplier of up to 90% of rare earth elements including Dysprosium, even with increased concerns over their supply shortages.

China’s export quota and tax system has been a topic of controversy, mainly because it limits the amount of any Rare Earth Element (REE) that can be exported during any single year.

Only 1,500MT of Dysprosium is refined every year across the world. This is equivalent to 1% of all refined rare earth elements.

The Department of Defense, a US government department, recently listed Dysprosium as one of six rare earth elements that would experience an immediate shortfall in the event of a conflict scenario.

WHY BUY NOW

Highest magnetic strength of any element making it critical in electric and hybrid vehicles, and many other electric motors.

Toyota’s projected output of 1 million full battery, zero emission electric cars by 2030 alone could deplete the world’s Dysprosium supply, so manufacturers will be wrestling over them.

China and the EU are offering financial incentives and/or mandating electric or hybrid vehicles, so demand is skyrocketing.

Germany and India mandated all new cars to be electric vehicles by 2030.

Luxury and sports car manufacturers like Tesla, BMW, Porsche, Aston Martin, Bentley and Ferrari are introducing hybrid vehicles, making driving “green” cool and expanding the market.

Many other alternative energy technologies such as wind turbines will continue to increase demand on rare magnets.
