APPEARANCE AND CHARACTERISTICS

This greyish white, very hard Germanium has a high alkali, corrosion and acid resistance. It has a metallic cluster with the same crystal structure as diamonds yet it is brittle, like glass. It is a semi-conductor element that is transparent to infrared radiation which makes it ideal in infrared detectors and optical instruments.

CONCENTRATION OF SUPPLY

Environmental inspections of plants in China are resulting in lower output and a shortage of material.

Low mine productions (100-120 tonnes worldwide).

Germanium ranks near fiftieth in relative abundance of the elements in the Earth’s crust.

World Germanium consumption has been greater than primary production in recent years, but releases of Germanium from government stockpiles and increased recycling have provided adequate supply so far.

WHY BUY NOW

The US Department of Defence predicts to experience immediate shortfalls in case of base conflict scenarios.

Thin Film Solar Technology could double the demand of Germanium by the year 2020, potentially doubling its value, not including other demand issues.

Supply disruptions, price volatility, price collusion, and price-setting by China are likely scenarios for the foreseeable future, decreasing supply while potentially increasing the safety of holding Germanium in your portfolio.

China’s National Strategic Stockpile is stocking up on these metals to support their local manufacturers.
